Jersey Shore, PA (February 25, 2008) - Jersey Shore Hospital is now offering a consulting specialty clinic for gastric bypass surgery. This Bariatric Clinic was formed so that patients who are considering surgery wont have to travel out of the area to receive care.
Christopher Motto, M.D., of Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg, has partnered with Jersey Shore Hospital to begin the Bariatric Clinic. Dr. Motto will be traveling to Jersey Shore each month, beginning March 11, to see Bariatric patients.
"Bariatric patients must meet with the doctor for six months prior to surgery, so it was important for Jersey Shore Hospital to bring Bariatric services into our area, rather than requiring the patients to travel," said the hospital CEO Carey Plummer.
Dr. Motto's Bariatric program begins with a one-on-one visit with the patient, includes working closely with a registered dietician and also consists of having a customized exercise plan developed for each candidate. All of these services are available within the hospital.
Other program benefits include health monitoring and comprehensive lab work, medical and individual progress reviews, individualized meal plans, behavior modification for lasting results and monthly support group meetings.
The clinics will begin on March 11 at 1:00 p.m. and will be held in the former Same Day Unit area of the hospital. For more information or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Motto, please call Emily Bryant at 570-398-5196.
Dr. Motto will also be hosting two informational sessions for potentially interested patients on March 11 in the former Same Day Unit area of the hospital, with the first session beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the second session beginning at 5:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
