Hospital Employee Raises Funds for Grandson
JERSEY SHORE—Janice Livermore says she owes it all to her fellow co-workers. Livermore, a unit clerk and nurse’s aide in the Jersey Shore Hospital acute care unit, was recently given the honor of “highest individual fundraiser” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Stride and Ride event held Saturday, Nov. 7. The Stride and Ride event raises funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and for Livermore, muscular dystrophy hits very close to home. Jacob Bergstrom, 9, is Livermore’s grandson, and her main reason for participating in the Stride and Ride event. “I decided to participate in the Stride and Ride because my grandson, Jacob, has Duchenne Dystrophy, which is fatal,” said Livermore. “I wanted to support him and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.” Bergstrom participated in the event as well, pacing in his wheelchair alongside Livermore and the rest of the team, which he calls “Jacob’s Gofers.” Together, the team raised $1,784. Individually, Livermore raised an astonishing $540. “It wasn’t just me, though,” said Livermore. “The doctors, the nursing staff, the nutrition and dining departments… I asked everyone I saw to sponsor me. I am very grateful for everyone’s support, and I owe it all to my coworkers at Jersey Shore (Hospital).” The event took place at Lycoming College’s recreation center.
