Patient Celebrates Birthday with Hospital Family
Richard Confer has been a patient in the hospital’s Bridges Program for over 60 days now. So when the nursing staff, dieticians, physical therapists, and other caregivers presented Confer with a surprise birthday cake, he and his new family were nearly brought to tears. “Richard is such a pleasure to have here,” said Ruby Stetts, a certified occupational therapy assistant. “Anyone else in his situation would have handled the stay differently, but he handled his unfortunate situation very well. The length of a stay such as this could have been seen as negative to some people, but Richard has continued to keep a positive attitude.” The hospital’s Bridges Program, otherwise known as a Swing Bed Unit, is a step-down unit that provides a safe and comfortable alternative atmosphere for those who are recovering from major joint surgery, a medical problem such as a stroke, acute illness, IV therapy or any surgical procedure that no longer requires an acute hospital stay. Confer is expected to be released prior to the Christmas holiday. View the Hospital's articles archives here.
