Hospital Welcomes New Board Members

Four new additions were recently made to three of the Jersey Shore Hospital’s four boards: Jersey Shore Healthcare Inc., Shore Properties Corporation, and the Jersey Shore Area Health Services Corporation.

Dorothy Chappel, Ph.D., recently joined the Jersey Shore Area Health Services Corporation.

Chappel, of Jersey Shore, has been employed by the Jersey Shore Area School District for 10 years. Her current role as the Director of Career and Technical Education involves overseeing the high school’s eight occupation-specific programs.

While healthcare is not currently one of those eight programs, Chappel is excited to be exploring the option of involving healthcare within the school district.

“I’ve watched Jersey Shore Hospital transition over the course of the last 25 years, and the technology and advancements are very impressive… I’m excited to be a part of the hospital community and hopefully grow the relationship between the hospital and the school,” Chappel said.

In her spare time, Chappel enjoys skiing, hiking, and traveling with her family: husband Mark, daughters Katherine and Gabrielle, and son Tyler. Chappel is also a past member of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra.

A new addition to the Shore Properties Corporation is Jack Dingess, plant manager for Truck-Lite in McElhattan.

Dingess, not originally from the area, has been with Truck-Lite for five years.

“I’m hoping to bring an objective view to the properties board and how the properties are being used,” said Dingess, who is also excited to learn how the properties function and becoming more immersed in the local area.

Dingess also noted that his manufacturing and logistics background will be a helpful addition. “I’m interested in learning more about the board and learning from that perspective.”

Dingess enjoys coaching two basketball teams at the Jersey Shore YMCA, and spending time with his wife Evelyn and their four children.

And two new additions to the Jersey Shore Health Care Inc. board are Bob Oakes and Wade Keiffer.

Oakes is retired from the insurance business known as Oakes Insurance (Nationwide Insurance) on Allegheny Street in Jersey Shore, along with two other insurance groups in Canton and Elkland.

From a healthcare technology standpoint, Oakes is interested in learning more about how the hospital functions and the new technology which is available.

“The hospital’s technology is phenomenal,” said Oakes. “I hope that we can help (Jersey Shore Hospital) move forward with online medical records… helping to facilitate that doctors in our area can all interact with one another.”

In his spare time, Oakes enjoys rebuilding and refurbishing classic cars and classic motorcycles, as well as traveling.

Oakes is married to wife Nancy, and has three kids: Mike Oakes, Dewey Oakes, and Jade Snook.

Similiarly, Keiffer—of Woodlands Bank—is interested in seeing how the healthcare reform issues will pan out and possibly affect Jersey Shore Hospital and the community.

“I began work at the State Bank of Avis more than 30 years ago, and have been a healthcare analyst throughout my career,” said Keiffer, who is now a commercial lending officer at Woodlands.

“In addition to giving back to the community, I’m interested to learn more about the healthcare system, and to become acquainted with the current state of affairs in the healthcare industry,” he added, noting that his daughter, Mallori, is a Registered Nurse in the Lock Haven area and tends to help him understand the many facets of healthcare.

Keiffer also has a son, Thomas, and is married to wife Monica. The family enjoys fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.
