Hospital Using State-of-the-Art Cataract Equipment
Jersey Shore Hospital recently purchased brand new, state-of-the-art ocular surgical equipment for use in the operating rooms. The Infiniti Vision System by Alcon Equipment is intended for use in small incision (about one-tenth of an inch) cataract lens extraction. This system allows the physician to more easily remove the affected lens, using the no shot, no suture, and no patch type of surgery that we have used for many years. By definition, a cataract is a clouding of the crystalline lens of the eye, which obstructs the passage of light. Visually, cataracts appear as a cloudy mass in one’s eye. If untreated, cataracts may progress to vision loss or complete blindness. The physicians who treat cataracts at Jersey Shore Hospital remove the affected lens through a small incision into the cornea, and then replace it with a permanent lens made of plastic. Cataract operations are extremely successful and patients are typically allowed to return home within a couple of hours. The ophthalmologists at Jersey Shore Hospital are the most experienced and ethical in the area, and strive to make each patient’s experience as pleasant as possible.
