JERSEY SHORE—The Jersey Shore Area Kiwanis Club presented their 23rd annual Rev. George Morton Spiritual Aims Award on Tuesday, May 10 in the Jersey Shore Hospital Boardroom.
The recipient of this year’s award is Carmen Spinney, M.D. of Avis.
Kiwanis member John Corson began by describing the purpose of the Spiritual Aims Award. “This award is given to people who work very diligently within their church and their community,” he said. “To be eligible, you must be active in the Jersey Shore community and actively participate in spiritual or humanitarian services.”
Dr. Spinney, Corson said, is an extremely deserving applicant.
“In the conversations I’ve had with Dr. Spinney, you can definitely see she is deserving of this award. She has been active in the Jersey Shore and surrounding communities for 38 years,” Corson said.
In addition, Dr. Spinney—after being born and raised in the Philippines—began to make her mark in New York and Pennsylvania. Serving on numerous committees, board, and clubs, Dr. Spinney has participated in the drug and alcohol commission, the United Way, the Lycoming County Medical Society, the First Presbyterian Church in Jersey Shore, the Community Civic Chorus in Williamsport, and so much more.
Dr. Spinney is licensed to practice medicine in New York and Pennsylvania, and is an active staff physician at Jersey Shore Hospital and Susquehanna Health Systems. She is also the past president of the medical staff at Jersey Shore Hospital and a board member at Jersey Shore Hospital.
During the presentation, Corson asked for testimony from family and friends. Daughter Michelle said of her mother, “It’s never been about the money or the luxuries, it’s always been about the people.”
Dr. Spinney commented back: “Jersey Shore has been a work of love.” |
